MISSION
The regulation Department will ensure the development, consolidation and sustenance of an effective and efficient railway safety regulatory environment that facilitates the continuing enhancement of railway safety management in the country, and develop systems and standards for the transportation of dangerous goods by rail.

SUPPORTING OBJECTIVES
• To develop railway safety standards and regulations to give effect to the need for a sound regulatory regime.
• To manage and guide safety performance by operators through safety permits.
• To conduct research and development on railway safety to continually improve the safety management model of the country.
• To ensure safe transportation of dangerous goods by the railways through relevant prescripts and systems.
• To facilitate co-operation and co-ordination with departments and other organs of state to ensure effective implementation of the railway safety regulatory regime.
