The Railway Safety Regulator’s (RSR) inspectors have conducted a preliminary inspection following a fatal level crossing accident in Blackheath, in the Western Cape. The accident claimed nine (9) children’s lives on Wednesday 25 August, in the morning. read more>>

20-August-2010.jpg-1 The Railway Safety Regulator successfully hosted Cell C Take a Girl Child to Work Day, on Thursday 18 August, 2010. This was the first time that the organisation hosted the event. Staff were invited by Human Resources and Communication to bring their daughters, nieces and other female relatives to work, in order to explore career opportunities in the organisation and the transport sector as a whole. read more>>

13-August-2010.jpg-1 The Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) issued an improvement directive to Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) following a fatal level crossing accident, which claimed four lives. A TFR train collided with a school bus on the morning of 31 July 2010 in Phalaborwa. The directive, issued on 3 August 2010, required TFR to improve conditions at the level crossing, which were a potential threat to safe railway operations.

The Railway Safety Regulator is taking part in “Cell C Take A Girl Child to Work Day®” for the first time this year. Staff have been invited to bring their female relatives in Grades 10 – 12, to the office on Thursday 19 August. The girls will experience the working world, explore career options in the railway sector and participate in a fun-filled and informative excursion. The RSR intends to host 10 girl learners who are eligible to participate in the programme. read more>>

30-July-2010.jpg-2 The Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) is investigating a fatal incident in which a Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) train collided head-on, with a motorised track maintenance trolley. It is understood that the trolley had been part of scheduled maintenance activities earlier in the day. read more>>

23-July-2010.JPG-1 The RSR developed a Southern African Railways Association (SARA) Regional Safety Policy that was approved by the SARA Board in 2008. This policy is based on South African National Standard 3000-1 and describes the minimum elements of a safety management system. read more>>

15-July-2010.jpg-1 The RSR teamed up with Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) to donate school tracksuits, uniforms and stationery to children at J.S Malaza Primary School in Daveyton. The school identified 36 students from disadvantaged homes to receive tracksuits from sponsors, while the rest of the school and 30 teachers received stationery and T-shirts. read more>>

Untitled-1_56 Just a week before the 2010 FIFA World Cup ™ kicks off, the Railway Safety Regulator gave the Bombela Operating Company (BOC) the go-ahead to start operating the Gautrain between Sandton and OR Tambo International Airport. The historic event took place on Wednesday 2 June 2010 at the Gautrain Station located at the airport. read more>>

21-May-2010.jpg-1 The Railway Safety Regulator was invited to the first trial run of the Gautrain with passengers on 15 May 2010 at Marlboro station. The RSR will soon furnish the operator Bombela with its Safety Permit. Only a limited number of tickets were issued by the Bombela Operating Company for this occasion. RSR staff and external stakeholders were able to attend this historic event which took place 26 days before the kick off of the FIFA 2010 World Cup™. read more>>

The Railway Safety Regulator will host a board meeting of the Southern African Railways Association (SARA) for the first time on Thursday 13 May 2010.
