Inculcating a culture of safety

During the month of April, the Railway Safety Regulator will be visiting Mpumalanga to conduct a series of level crossing campaigns.

According to the 2019/20 State of Safety Report, level crossing occurrences in Mpumalanga increased by a staggering 7 per cent. The province was the fifth highest, trailing Gauteng, Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal with the North West leading the pack on level crossing occurrences.

On 21-23 April, the team will be at Steelpoort  and Burgersfort level crossings, Lydenburg level crossing and Witbank Level Crossing, respectively. From 28-30 April, the team will visit the Rolle, Cottondale, Matsulu Taxi Rank and Kaapmeiden level crossings, respectively.

The focus of the campaigns will not only be on addressing motorists on how to interact with level crossings, but there will also be community engagements aimed at educating the public on rail safety.

Look out for the team in your area!
