The Railway Safety Regulator has started off the new year with a bang by producing a chilling TV advert set to change minds and behaviour at level crossings. Set in the heart of Pretoria’s railway hub in Pienaarspoort, the audience is introduced to an all too familiar sight whereby an irate carpool driver is transporting school children to their homes. What happens next is unfathomable and a painful reminder of what can happen when motorists choose to disobey the rules of a level crossing/railway.
Without giving away too much, the advertisement is aimed at commuters, communities living adjacent to railway lines and motorist to deter unsafe behaviour such as crossing railway lines unlawfully to take shortcuts. The cast of the ad is made up of children related to RSR employees who not only delivered a convincing message, but evoked tear-jerking moments throughout the ad.
