Pursuant to the compulsory briefing held on Tuesday, 8 January 2008, be advised that the bid will be evaluated through a two-stage bidding process.  The first phase will constitute an evaluation only on functionality and empowerment which will result in a short-list of bidders who will then be invited to submit comprehensive price lists as part of the second stage of the bidding exercise.  The 5 Bidders who then secure the highest points both in terms of price, functionality and empowerment will become the preferred bidders to be placed on the RSR Corporate Printing Panel.

Further note that the closing date of 11 January 2008 for submission of your bids still holds, however, it is not mandatory for bidders to submit any price lists at this stage.

MOSENNGWA MOFI ADDRESSES SABS CONVENTION ON STANDARDS
The CEO of the RSR, Mr Mosenngwa Mofi addressed an SABS convention on 11 October 2007 at the Sandton Convention Centre where he articulated an understanding of the need for standards for good order in society, and particularly for the railway industry.  He articulated the nature of standards being developed by the RSR and the need for them both for safety and commercial considerations, both within South Africa and within the SADC railways.  Read More>>

RSR GRANTS SAFETY PERMIT TO BOTSWANA RAIL
At a media briefing held in Gaborone, Botswana, the Minister of Transport, Honourable Jeff Radebe handed over a Safety Permit issued by the Railway Safety Regulator to his Botswana counterpart, Minister Lesego Motsumi.  This was a milestone for the RSR in its endeavours to ensure railway operations in the country and indeed the SADC region adhere to the highest standards of safety performance.  Read the Minister's statement>>

RAILWAY SAFETY INSPECTORATE INSPECTS TRANSNET FREIGHT RAIL TRAIN
The Railway Safety Inspectorate of the Railway Safety Regulator today conducted an inspection on Transnet Freight Rail (formerly Spoornet) trains.  This is part of ongoing efforts to improve safety performance in South Africa’s railways and ensure compliance with safety standards.  Read More>>

RSR RELEASED FIRST-EVER STATE OF RAILWAY SAFETY REPORT
While the report itself may highlight areas of serious concern, tremendous progress has been made during 2006/07 to correct the state of affairs reflected in this report, and the directives we have issued to operators from time to time in order to avoid recurrence of incidents have yielded notable results.  This progress will be reported on in detail in the next State of Railway Safety report to be published during the course of this year.
